Mira jumped out of Matsuko's lap and bounded over to Coal. Matsuko shook her head and looked out the window, focusing on the clouds in the sky. She missed laying with Cairo to watch the clouds. It felt nice. It was starting to get a bit dark though, and Matsuko supposed their journey would have to stop for now. Dark sky, dark clouds. That could only mean it would rain tonight. Meanwhile, Mira poked Coal and started chittering with him about Matsuko's thoughts on Cairo. Cute. Funny. Kind. All of those things and a few exaggerated ones.

Cairo called Nidoran back into its Pokeball and went to go sit with Matsuko as their Charmanders went on talking about whatever it was they were talking about. Probably the two of them. They seemed intent on playing matchmaker. Cairo placed his hand on Matsukos knee, as he had done as a child to comfort her when she cried. He didn't know why, but she always seemed to respond more to his hand on her knee than her shoulder. "Looks like a storms coming." He said. "Guess we're spending the night here.." He was somewhat disappointed. He had hoped to make it to Pewter city by that night, but traveling in the rain was a bad idea, and he wouldn't dare aske Matsuko to walk through the forest at night. "Wonder what happened to Lance." he said after a while. It seemed like he kept appearing and disappearing. But he would show up eventually. Mira and Coal seemed to be watching the two, as if they were waiting for something. As he noticed, he removed his hand from the girls leg, and looked away, blushing once more.

Matsuko looked at Cairo as he placed his hand on her knee and she relaxed a bit. "Guess so... Hope it doesn't start thundering and lightning.." she said softly, scooting closer to Cairo. She hated thunder and lightning. That was the way it was when she was younger and it only got worse when she grew up. Thunder boomed. She paid no attention the the Charmanders talking to each other, or the fact that Lance was missing. Her face lost all color and she started shaking once Cairo removed his hand from her knee. Lightning flashed. She closed her eyes, stood and walked over to the counter, looking away from the lightning, and asked how her Pidgey was.

For once, Cairo wasn't blushing during his interaction with Matsuko. The instinct he had to protect her was built in since they were kids, and it overpowered feelings of embarrassment. When the Thunder first boomed, he took her by the hand. He knew she hated storms. "It'll be alright." He told her. But he could tell she was bothered. Storms had a horrible effect on her. Nurse Joy came back with Pidgey and announced that it was just fine. The fact that Matsuko had treated it so quickly was probably the reason. Meanwhile, Cairo got the key to a room. He took Matsuko by the hand, and lead her and the Pokemon up to it. The room had three beds and a large window. Cairo then released all his Pokemon into the room. "You guys keep Matsuko company. I'm going to find Lance." He said. "Matsuko, do you mind if I borrow Squirtle and Pidgey?" He asked. "Along with Nidoran, the four of us should be able to find him pretty quickly."

Matsuko held the pidgey in her arms and took a few deep breaths. "Yeah. I'll be fine." she squeezed his hand tightly as he led her to the room and took a small look around. The large window was the part that scared her. She released her Squirtle and let Mira settle down on one of the beds. She didn't sit, she just leaned on the wall and looked at the window. "Borrow Squirtle and Pidgey? Sure... I guess." she bit her lip. She honestly didn't want him to leave, but it was to find Lance. "Hurry back." she said softly and went over to the bed farthest from the window, curling up under the covers and facing away. "Be safe..."

Words couldn't express how much Cairo didn't want to leave Matsuko alone. He knew how scared she was of storms. But what could he do? Lance was out in the storm now. He couldn't take her with him. She would be petrified. So he left the Pokemon to keep her company. Besides, the Charmanders wouldn't do well out in the rain. He closed the curtain to the window, to prevent her from looking out and seeing lightning. "Come on you guys." He said, as Pidgey, Squirtle, and Nidoran followed him out. Pidgeys job would be to search from the skies, while Nidorans job would be to keep an ear out for Lance. Squirtle probably wasn't needed, but he wanted to keep an eye on it. Also, he thought it might enjoy being out in the rain. "Lance!" The boy yelled, and Nidoran would listen for a response. His first thought would be to go north toward the forest. That was the last place they had seen him, after all. Pidgey flew ahead, hoping to get an arial view, While Cairo searched for a place that Lance might have been able to take cover.

Lance was deep in the forest and lost two trainers had jumped him earlier and hurt Pikachu and Ekans and Rattata had already been taken out, Lance looked like he had been through hell scratches on his face and hands. The two trainers had sent their pokemon after Lance and all he could do was run with Pikachu in his arms, Pikachu was breathing heavily and it’s eyes were closed, “Pikachu please be ok,” Lance’s eyes were forward as he moved through the forest then the rain poured down harshly and the lightning flashed across the sky and yet he still ran heading back to Viridian city and almost slamming into Cairo, all he did was held Pikachu outward and muttered “Help him” Lance was weak from running and his poke battles.

The storm had gotten really bad by the time Lance and Cairo ran into eachother. Lance looked like hell, and Pikachu looked even worse. It would be hard to make it back to the Pokemon center with them in that condition. Spotting a closed flower shop with an awning out front, Cairo took Pikachu, and helped them both to get under it. He then pulled out a super potion, and began spraying Pikachu with it. It would begin to work almost instantly, Pikachu showing a drastic improvement in health. Cairo was still worried about Lance though. He didn't have anything that would help humans with him, but he needed to get him out of those wet clothes and bandaged up. He picked Lance's Pikachu up in his arms, and signaled to Lance. "We're going to have to run for it!" he said, as he recalled Nidoran into its Pokeball. "Three.... Two... ONE!" And the sprint to the Pokemon Center would begin.

Lance watched Cairo spray Pikachu and it already looked better and his eyes began to water even though you couldn’t tell in the rain. He heard Cairo’s words and gave a nod as he began running after the boy, Lance was slower because of his injuries but continued to push forward his breath coming out in short gasps two more bolts of lightning shot across the sky as they made the journey to the pokemon center, he walked in behind Cairo and squirtle and pidgey falling to one knee at the entrance and breathing heavily, he then fell to his bottom and leaned against the door breathing heavily his bruised and beat up body in pain and he was too weak to move and just sat there.

Cairo stuck close to Lance the duration of the trip to the Pokemon Center. Though this slowed him down, he wanted to make sure that he was alright. Once they arrived, He took Pikachu to Nurse Joy. "It's been through a lot." He told her, and she took it for Diagnostic. Cairo then took JDs other Pokeballs, and checked them to the nurse as well. "I'll come get them for you later." He said, before taking Lance's arm and putting it around his neck to help him upstairs. The room had already been arranged, so he took him in, and helped him to the bathroom. "Get out of those wet clothes, and take a hot shower." He said. "Then we'll get you bandaged up." He sat down on his own bed, and sighed. His clothes were wet too, but they only had one bathroom, and he couldn't undress in front of Matsuko. He would just have to wait..

Lance limped with Cairo up the stairs and walked into the bathroom he undressed and grunted in pain as he did. He stepped into the shower and cut it on his eyes closed as the water trailed down his cold skin and his mind wandered back to the two trainers there cold black eyes staring at him as they threw their pokeballs forward and all he noticed were the magmar and the flareon appear before him. Why did he stay and fight he had no chance but he tried he sent Pikachu and ekans forward and with one attack both of them were destroyed by one attack, who were they and when he returned Ekans he noticed the magmar and the flareon were moving in on Pikachu and he leaped forward covering Pikachus little body with his own and magmar just began punching at his body as he bent over Pikachu and the man’s words stuck hard ‘Pokemon are just tools to fight with not your friends remember that’ he then recalled the Magmar and they turned and left and Lance laid there too weak to move. His mind wandered back to the shower and he cut the water off as he changed clothes pulling them from his bookbag pulling on everything but his shirt as he stepped out into the main room. He gave Matsuko a small smile as his towel betrayed the small burns on his chest and the scratches on his face and his hands and he looked towards Cairo “I don’t think I need bandages I am fine,” even as he said this his face betrayed the pain his entire body felt.

Matsuko gasped softly as the two entered the room. "What happened to you!?" she jumped off of the bed, startling the two Charmanders and went to her bag, getting bandages and creams out for Lance's burns. When she spread it out on the bed, Lance was in the shower. "C-Cairo, you can go change, I won't look." she sat on the bed and faced the wall, waiting for Lance to get out of the shower. Once he did, she rushed over and pushed him down onto one of the beds. "Sit, don't move, don't object." she took the cream and carefully applied it to the burns and cuts on his body. "What happened to you!? I shouldn't have left with Cairo. I mean, I'm traveling with you, I shouldn't have gone." she rambled on and on to herself, blaming herself for every wound on his body. "I'm sorry, Lance..." the thunder boomed again and her body shook.

Nodding his head, Cario started to undress as Matsuko turned her back. He took a towel and dried himself before pulling out a change of clothes, and dressing himself. He sighed to himself as he awaited Lance's arrival outside the shower, however, he wasn't prepared for Matsuko's reaction. His eyes widened as she pushed him onto the bed. "Don't be so rough! He's injured!" He told her. He was concerned for Lance, but he was also somewhat envious of the attention Matsuko was showing him. And her words didn't help at all. "I shouldn't have left with Cairo..." It was almost as if he were no longer in the room. It was just the two of them. Perhaps it would be best if he left? He was unsure what to do. But he knew this. It wouldn't have made any difference if Matsuko had stayed with Lance. She just would have been in the same condition as him. Not only that, but they wouldn't have him there to treat them. They couldn't all be together at all times. The only real solution was for them all to get stronger. His face was solemn as these thoughts crossed his mind. He pulled out a coat, and an umbrella, and began walking toward the door. "Come on Coal..." He said, the two of them leaving without another word.

Outside the Pokemon Center, Coal and Cairo stood under the umbrella, which was used to protect its tail flame. "Coal, you're going to learn flamethrower." He said. Using the TM app on his Pokedex, he bought the Flamethrower tutorial, and showed it to Coal. After watching it a couple times, he instructed Coal to give it a try. Mustering up all it's strength, the young charmander attempted to use the fire-breathing technique, but it managed little more than a flicker. "Looks like it'll take a while to get it down..." He said. Charmander was still at a pretty low level, and would have a hard time mastering higher level techniques. Not only that, but the rain would make fire techniques more difficult to use. However, they wouldn't give up. "Try it again..."

Matsuko bit her lip when Cairo left. She saw the expression on his face and she knew it was partially her fault. Once she was done bandaging Lance's wounds, she made him lay down on the bed and pulled the covers up. "Rest. We can't travel if you're injured." she said with a small smile and a friendly kiss on the cheek. Rushing out of the room, she grabbed an umbrella, Mira following right behind her. She rushed out to where they were, despite her phobia of storms. She made it out to where they managed a flicker. She watched for a moment and shook her head. "Cairo." she said sternly, despite her body shaking from the lightning. "Come back inside, you can't train like this in the rain! This is stupid!" Mira ran over to them and under their umbrella, yelling at Coal the same way Matsuko was with Cairo. "Char!"

Lance winced in pain as Matsuko shoved him on the bed his injuries stinging with the pain, Lance shook his head and put his fingers to her lips. “No I am glad you were with Cairo if you had been with me things might have happened differently.” Lance watched Cairo’s reaction and he stood up and grabbed Matsuko’s shoulder, and looked at her before talking kind of loud “Let me go talk to him.” Lance was the older of the three of them and always acted like an older sibling when Matsuko was down Cairo was the only one that could calm her down but when Cairo was upset Lance had to do something and Lance did his best to remain strong for the two of them. Lance was forcefully made to lay down on his back and a kiss was planted on his cheek and he decided just to lay there Nurse Joy came upstairs a few minutes later and placed the two pokeballs on his bed and Pikachu ran in and leaped on the bed good as new “Pika chu” Lance gave the mouse a small smile and hugged it tightly and it curled up and went to sleep Lance’s mind wandering back to Matsuko and Cairo who were out in the rain.

Coal looked to the ground, sulking as it was lectured by Mira. However, Cairo was not as submissive. Still facing away from Matsuko, he spoke. "You shouldn't be out here..." He said calmly. sprinkles of water meeting with his face as he fought with his own emotions. He didn't want her out in the storm that he knew she was petrified of. Especially not chasing behind him. He finally turned to face Matsuko, and offered her the best fake smile he could muster. "You should be taking care of Lance. He needs your care right now." There was truth in his statement, but he had another motivation. Perhaps it was true that this happened because she was with him. If that was the case, he would have to become stronger, so that he could protect her AND Lance. "Coal, Flamethrower" He said in a quiet, calm voice. Coal turning and obeying its master. This time it managed a small flame, however, it was quickly put out by the rain.

Matsuko shook her head and went straight up to him, pulling her hand back and slapping him in the face. "Cairo, you're an idiot. Look at Coal. Are you really making him train in the rain? I know you want to get stronger, but, this?" she stepped back and took a small, steady breath. Mira didn't hit Coal, she just sat there and watched him with sad eyes. Matsuko sighed and tried to think of something to get Cairo back inside. "You'll get sick like this. We're like a family, we look out for each other." then she did the stupidest thing she could have ever done to make him go inside. She gave her umbrella to Mira, since it was small enough for the Pokemon to hold onto without being blown away, and stood in the rain beside Cairo. "If you're out here, I'm not leaving."

Surprise played on Cairos face when Matsuko slapped him, followed shortly by anger. She was the one who cased him out here. She was the one who basically said she shouldn't have been with him. That she should have been with Lance instead. What difference did it make if HE was out there? He calmed himself before responding to her. "It's just rain. It's a part of nature. Do you think the Elite Four hide inside just because of the rain? No. They train anyway. If I don't get stronger, I won't be able to protect you. Coal understands that. Why don't you?" He didn't want to hear about them being like family. That was why he was out there in the first place. At least... That's what he had convinced himself of... His eyes widened when she handed Mira her umbrella, and he quickly grabbed her by the hand and pulled her underneath his. "..." he sighed, and looked down at Coal. It wasn't comfortable, but it was motivated. driven. Qualities of a true champion. "Fine... Let's go Coal." He said, keeping Matsuko close tohim under the umbrella as they made their way back inside.

Matsuko sighed and shook her head. He was being ridiculous. She knew how hard he worked and that he wanted to get stronger, but they were young. "I know they don't hide from the rain, I know they push themselves, but you're not them, Cairo..." her voice was softer now, speaking out of genuine worry for him. She let him pull her under his umbrella, but she yanked her wrist out of his hand. She knew he was annoyed with her, and she was glad. She could deal with him being angry with her, but she would never be able to look at him again if he got sick or hurt because of how she acted. She entered the room silently and went into the bathroom so she could take a soothing shower. Mira went over to Coal and started muttering to him about Matsuko's feelings.

Matsuko's words were less than comforting. In fact, they only lead him to want to train harder. He knew he wasn't them, but his goal was to be better than them. He couldn't do that if he was too easy on himself and his Pokemon just because he was young. But taking care of Matsuko was more important than any training session. He would go inside with her, and go over to his bed. He laid down, and went to sleep without a word. They would be leaving in the morning, soon as the storm was over.

Matsuko came out of the shower looking worse than she did when she went in. Without even a 'goodnight', she took the only bed left and curled up under the covers. Mira crawled beside her and snuggled against her. It was late and after the drama that just went on, she just wanted to sleep and wake up back in Pallet town with her mom yelling at her for breakfast... She mumbled softly to herself, trying to distract her mind from Cairo.

"Breakfast!"

Cairo walked into the room with a cart covered in breakfast foods. Eggs, Bacon, Sausage, and a number of fruits. On his face a bright smile as he stopped the cart in front of Lance's bed, which was in the middle. Then, he reached under the cart and pulled out ten bowls of Pokemon food. "Wake up guys," he said, as he released each of his Pokemon and directed them to their food. He then chewed on a piece of bacon as he awaited Lance and Matsuko's awakening. He was already fully dressed, as he had been through a number of things since the sun came up. He went on a walk, trained with Coal and Nidoran, and went to the bar to get food for the others. He normally wasn't a morning person, but his excitement about the future gave him energy. He wanted to get through the forest and to Pewter city so that he could try to get his first badge.

Matsuko woke up with a soft groan and sat up. Who the hell woke her up? If it was her brother again, she would kill the little shi- The smell of bacon filled the room and her eyes widened. Mira jumped off the bed and went straight to one of the bowls of Pokemon food. She crawled to the end of her bed and took a piece of bacon, popping it into her mouth. "Mmm." she took a plate and put a little bit of everything on it before sitting cross-legged and eating. "This is delicious, thanks Cairo." her head was still fuzzy, so nothing that happened the night before could be remembered. All she knew was that she was eating, the sun was shining, and they had a journey ahead of them.

Lance opened his eyes sleepily at first then he picked up the pokeball that held Rattata within and threw it at Cairo’s head releasing the rattata below Cairo and at the bowl of food. With a yawn though he awoke and went into the bathroom and began unwrapping the bandages on his body, he stepped into the shower and cut it on before coming out and going back into the room he filled a plate with a little bit of fruit and ate silently watching Rattata, Ekans, and Pikachu eat the pokemon food. His mind was again on the events last night and he noticed how Cairo felt about Matsuko and vice versa and he could really care less his mind was on the two trainers that had attacked him yesterday, he was completely lost in thought and was yanked from thought by Pikachu knocking on his head. “Pika chu” its head was turned to the side and it was staring at him interestingly.

JDs pokeball hit Cairo on the top of his head, his hair softening the blow, however, it still stung. "Ouch! Watch it you jerk!" He said, as he waited for the others to get fed and ready. Having already eaten he just needed to wait for everyone else, and then they could get started on their way.
