Vermillion City

At the bottom of the path from Cerulean city, Vermillion City is the home of the High Class ship, the St. Anne; a High class cruise ship that takes off to the Johto region twice a year. It is also home to Lt. Surge's gym. The path to the East forks two ways. The top path leads to the Diglett cave. A dark cave that leads back to Viridian city. The bottom path continues a while, before being blocked off by a sleeping Snorlax on a bridge.

A year it had been since Raidon had caught his first Pokemon. And his mother still wouldn't let him leave to go on a journey. She told him that he couldn't go until he proved he could make it on his own by defeating Lt. Surge. He and the Ponyta he had captured tried many times to defeat him, but they just couldn't beat his Raichu. After a while, they even went out, and caught a Diglett, thinking that with a ground type, they could win, but even with Digletts help, they were unable to win. Raidon sat on the cliff above the docks with his Pokemon, looking at them with disappointment in his eyes. "Maybe we're going about this wrong, you guys. Maybe we should spend some time training, instead of just trying to catch more Pokemon. Ponyta and Diglett looked at him in agreement, and he stood to his feet. "Alright! Let's do it!" He returned them to their Pokeballs, and made his way to the field north of Vermillion city to begin his training.

Raidon and his Pokemon spent hours every day out training in the fields to the north of the city. So long as they were home by ten, they were ok. Building Ponytas speed, and Digletts defense were their main objectives. But on this particular day, They were focusing on Offense. Raidon instructed Ponyta to aim its Flamethrower toward the sky. Meanwhile, Diglett was to practicing it's Dig atack. Everything was going smoothly, until Ponyta, unaware of it's own strength, accidentally set a branch on fire. It really disturbed the area. Pidgey went scattering into the sky, and rattata scurried across the ground. "Diglett, put the fire out with sand attack!" He told it. Diglett quickly extinguished the flames with sand, but not before a disturbed Scyther made it's appearance. "Crap!" Raidon said, Returning Diglett to it's Pokeball, and hopping on Ponyta's back in attempts to escape. The Scyther quickly flew in front of Ponyta, however, scaring it and knocking Raidon off it's back.

They didn't have a choice. They were going to have to fight. "Ponyta, Ember!" Raidon said. He was afraid to use a stronger fire attack, as not to set anything ablaze again. Scyther easily put out the ember attack with a whirlwind, however, and came after Ponyta with a slash attack. This was bad! This Scyther was strong! And it was already going on nine o' clock!" After attempting every other attack he could think of, Raidon had no choice. "Ponyta, Flamethrower!" With a mighty neigh, Ponyta let out its flaming breath toward the speedy bug. Unable to contend with that level of heat, Scyther hit the ground, horribly burned. Raidon prepared to leave, however, he coudln't jsut leave the Scyther injured like that. Without thinking, he threw a Pokeball at it. And after little struggle, it was captured. Ponyta wasn't in the best of conditions either. Returning it to it's Pokeball as well, he made a dash to the Pokemon Center. He would have to explain to his mother later why he was late...

It had been two days since the incident with the Scyther. His Pokemon were treated well at the Pokemon Center, and doing just fine. However, Raidon had gotten scolded, and his curfew was cut back another hour. He had been spending the past two days just letting his Pokemon rest. Scyther was a bit hard to handle, but it didn't seem to be completely out of control. Today was the day they would go back to training. Raidon decided to use Scyther as a basis for Ponyta's speed training. Ponyta was to race against Scyther with Raidon on it's back. Of course, It was unable to win with the extra weight. But the repeated training greatly increased Ponyta's speed. Over the next day or two, Raidon could see a lot of improvement in the technique of all his Pokemon. And when he finally allowed Ponyta to race without carrying him, the result was a tie! It would be time to challenge Surge again soon. They would turn in early that night, because the next day would be a big one...
